Painting

Ive always been sort of interested in paintings, it was one of the first techniques I think I remember learning. Recently though I have taken more of an interest in it, I think its down to seeing the variations of the art form and being able to appreciate it more. I particularly like art work that I feel translates across to and can be applicable to graphic design. Painters such as Picasso and Matisse have started to influence some of my work, there is a project at the moment that I want to use the paper cut out technique Matisse used in his work later on in his life.

I saw some Picasso ceramics when I went to Barcelona during the January assessment week. Amongst this I saw a lot of other art and it does make you appreciate something so much more when you see it in the flesh, I feel this is why this year I have really tried in some of my briefs to approach them with a much more handmade way, to try and incorporate more classical styles of art like painting. I feel using a brush and paint is a good way of acheiving a very unique image, Ive been using some chinese brushes with ink as well as water colour in a few of my projects this year. I feel by trying to expand my own skills and try new ones in projects has given me much more inspiration to take on other projects. My project where I went about creating scratch protectors for iphones was inspired by Matisse's work. I liked how his work from an outside perspective may not look like the masterpieces they are said to be, in some cases the look like 'anyone could do that', but its his understanding and use of colour coupled with the organic shapes and the large scale a lot of his most famous work is in. I did initially want to create a copy of Mattisse's work to put on the back of screen protectors as art for your phone. From doing differernt test and exploring different ideas I didnt end up using his work directily as inspiration, but instead the whole project was really inspired by his work and how I essentially wanted to create something new. I made a series of images that I drew quite quickly and could be considered badly drawn, but it was this style I was embracing to producing something with a bit of humour.
